Ask HN: Is NPM Having an Outage?
I can't install any module. They are all 404.
https://www.npmjs.com/package/react
Update: I know there is a maintenance, but it is not supposed to impact installations:
While some features will remain operational, like installations and search, minor inefficiencies may occur.
Update 2: It is back for me.
- sirrocco 2y agoApparently there's scheduled maintenance ongoing - but it wasn't supposed to break everything :) https://status.npmjs.org/ https://status.npmjs.org/
- nosefrog 2y agoSame.
- alirezamirian 2y agoYes. any package I check is a 404 at the moment. Seems related to the scheduled maintenance mentioned here: https://status.npmjs.org/ https://status.npmjs.org/
- paradite 2y agoSeems like 404 is unexpected behaviour, according to the maintenance notes: > While some features will remain operational, like installations and search, minor inefficiencies may occur.
- muli_d 2y agoYes, I'm having the same issue. Getting 404 for React 19 [0]. However, according to npm's status page [1], there's a scheduled maintenance occurring right now, so that's expected. - ravenstine 2y agoNot sure why they can't return a more appropriate HTTP code.
- zinovev 2y agoHaving the same issue
- alongbottom 2y agoThe sunday on call devs at NPM are probably scrambling
- parzival2002 2y agoso what's next?
- kohukohunui 2y agominor inefficiencies
- binarymax 2y agoI've switched to hand coding all my dependencies from scratch for today.
- anotheracc88 2y agoYou switched to C?
- binarymax 2y agoC is too abstract, I was hand coding binary all day.

- JTyQZSnP3cQGa8B 2y agoBehaving like a professional and installing Artifactory to never have this issue again?
- emptiestplace 2y agoThis site is hilariously fucked on mobile https://jfrog.com/artifactory https://jfrog.com/artifactory
- FractalHQ 2y agoJSR is better so use that. And you can install npm deps from esm.sh instead.
- OfflineSergio 2y agoYes multiple 404s

- bagofdumb 2y agoHaving the same issue over here in Germany.
- vycos-zen 2y agojust ran into the third pretty common package that i can't update due to a 404, stuff that is pretty well maintained
- adhamsalama 2y agoSame. Turns out there's a planned maintenance, don't know if they intended to break installations though.
- binarymax 2y agoIt seems to be back up for me.
- zinovev 2y agoI have installed a package, it works
- alexswensen 2y agoI'm having the same issue, although it seems to be intermittent/recovering. Some packages I saw 404s on seem to be coming back.
- shlomo_z 2y agoNot surprising considering the JavaScript ecosystem.... ... I am just joking. Please don't downvote me for it.
- BoingBoomTschak 2y agoOh no! Anyway...
- BWStearns 2y agoThanks for posting. I was confused as hell why I couldn't install Axios and I was getting a 404 earlier.
