The higher bidder lost, in this case. The party’s message is also crucial.
- Retric 2y agoSo is the overall economic situation and actually having a full length campaign.

- declan_roberts 2y agoIt seems their performance matters more than ever.
- ahiknsr 2y ago> The party’s message is also crucial. can you tell me what was the message from republican party?
- lapcat 2y ago> The higher bidder lost, in this case. The highest bidder was Elon Musk at $242.6 billion, and he won.
- gruez 2y agoWho was the highest bidder in 2020/2022? Didn't SBF pour millions into the most expensive congressional race in Oregon (or something) and still lost?
- lapcat 2y agoI don't know much about Oregon politics, but I think you're focusing too much on individual donors and individual election winners. The point is that whoever wins is beholden to their big campaign donors. Some faction of the upper class is always in control of policy, and the vast majority of voters are just there to decide the competition between those upper class factions. The non-wealthy almost never win, in terms of getting policy that's beneficial to them.
- gruez 2y ago>you're focusing too much on individual donors and individual election winners But this directly contradicts your previous comment of >The highest bidder was Elon Musk at $242.6 billion, and he won.
- lapcat 2y ago> But this directly contradicts your previous comment That was a simple correction of a factual error by someone who replied to me: "The higher bidder lost, in this case." And I think that person was also focusing too much on individual donors and individual election winners.

- neogodless 2y agoYou're conflating the parent's message. In this case, the bidders are the donors buying politicians, not the political campaigns trying to influence voters.
- joshuanapoli 2y agoOk, that makes sense, and it gives an explanation for Elon’s large investment.
