They want to spend $429B to link up 6M schools. That's a cost of $71K a school.
It looks like Starlink is $17,000 for ten years of service, so even if you were to add a few thousand dollars for installation, there's a lot of overhead there.
It does strike me that a top-down approach seems more costly than a model that allows schools to get grants.
- dotancohen 2y agoCould Starlink handle that level of traffic from a single small location? Can Starlink support government-mandated firewalls and filters? Schools, as government organizations, have to consider that, even if we don't like it.
