Something I like about the style of Stargate SG-1 was that for the most part (at least initially), the team was equipped with essentially standard military gear. It seemed practical and non-pretentious. Even when the humans got starships, the crew were dressed and acted essentially like navy. Made the show somehow more believable. It probably also helped the budget.
