Been blown away by 2nd hand prices lately. Back in 2022 we needed another car for my wife, and she wanted an auto. I would have loved to get an electric as she doesn't cover a lot of miles - but £12k was cheap at the time for something like an electric Nissan Note. We ended up getting a diesel Kia Ceed - was £8k.
I was looking again recently, and found two Notes for sale for £1000 - with some nicely looking models around £2k - all of a sudden a 2nd electric car becomes very attractive - even if the battery only does 70 miles now, that doesn't matter - we drive about 10 miles a day at worst and even if I drove to work it would be around 50 miles return.
A good few people I know are buying or leasing electric cars now - looking forward to these newer cars hitting the 2nd hand market.
- mtrovo 2y agoI think this has a lot to do with vehicles bought using salary sacrifice hitting the market at the same time, I know some people that got their EV this way with a 30-40% discount.
- ljf 2y agoCertainly - that will benefit a lot of people who didn't want to (or who couldn't) take advantage of those offers. I was tempted to go for one, but would still have been around £400 a month after tax. I far prefer to buy a car in cash and drive it until it dies - but I understand others do enjoy having a newer car. Certainly benefits me when I come to buy something else 2nd hand.
