De Beers sells lab-grown diamonds too.
- paxys 2y agoNope, they do not. That whole experiment was killed a while ago.
- jdgoesmarching 2y agoDo you know something I don’t? Lightbox Jewelry is definitely still around and AFAIK it’s owned by De Beers. My understanding is this exists as an attempt to deflate the cost of lab growns. https://lightboxjewelry.com/ https://lightboxjewelry.com/
- paxys 2y agoJust selling off remaining stock – https://www.forbes.com/sites/pamdanziger/2024/06/05/de-beers-ends-lab-grown-diamonds-for-jewelry-and-recommits-to-natural-stones/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/pamdanziger/2024/06/05/de-beers...
- jdgoesmarching 2y agoWell, I couldn’t read that because Forbes is a nightmare that kept redirecting me to other articles but I’ll believe you. Pretty funny that the scheme didn’t work, I wish I had bought their deflated price stones when I had the chance.
- kergonath 2y agoYes, they are hedging their bets. But they make way more money if they keep selling their overpriced natural diamond. They may be planning for the next phase when synthetic diamonds have eaten all the market, but they are going to milk it as much as they can, for as long as they can. They did not grow a conscience when they got threatened.
