One of the struggles I have with my illness and diagnosis has been trying to convince people that I am not completely stupid and delusional about things in which I am an expert. Yes, I do occasionally suffer from delusions. But those delusions don't detract from my non-delusional-state ideas in areas about which I am well-informed. While I am not black so I am not on the receiving end of racism, I can certainly relate to feeling ostracized and isolated by those who are supposed to be helpful or at the very least tolerant of those of us with mental health issues.
