Good summary of airport gate management/leadership books.
I question the need for a "leadership" caste in the first place. Once an organization creates such a caste it will fill up with professional "leaders" who have never had to produce anything more complicated than a meeting agenda.
A useful leader understands the business and technical challenges faced by the people they lead, can work to remove obstacles, resolve conflicts, set priorities, and when necessary show how to do the work. A leader unable, or unwilling, to get their hands dirty will not deserve the respect of the people they lead, a leader in title only, a parasite on the organization rather than someone adding value.
