Can you remind HN what was special about VUE? My dim memory of it was that it was very CDE-like, in contrast to other environments of the time, such as Sun OpenWindows. Did VUE have some particular special sauce?
- wkat4242 2y agoIt was a lot prettier. Fruitier colours, modern sans serif fonts. And it had a cool hp logo on the dock, it made it look like a little computer. It always made me happy when I logged in in the morning. Then CDE came and it felt like work. When they partnered with sun and IBM to make CDE it got all boringified and businessy :P Serif fonts, boring designs etc. But yea it was very CDE like because the UI for CDE was basically taken from VUE. CDE had a few thingies that were a bit more advanced like more things you could just configure by clicking instead of messing with config files.
