Microsoft launches imprint that aims to be faster than traditional publishing
- Finnucane 2y agoTraditional publishing can move fast when it wants to, but it usually doesn't want to pay the rush fees. I've worked on projects that went from manuscript to finished books in a couple of months. You have to do things like split proofreading jobs and pay freelancers extra to turn things around in a few days. Most of the time the schedule has little to do with technology. Where I work, sales and publicity want to have first-pass proofs seven months before pub date, so they can do sales and line up reviews before the book is distributed. For specialized books, you might be able to shorten that, knowing you aren't going into every bookstore.
