I understand the concern about youth. However, adding age controls means proving your identity. No more pseudo anonymity.
First, that is hugely valuable data for the tech giants. Second, that data will be leaked, stolen or abused - so literally everyone will be doxxed.
As too often: well-meaning idea with horrible consequences.
- Arnt 2y agoI guess the Germans attitude has a lot to do with shitstorms, e.g. a recent one that pushed the victim to suicide. Some people behave really nastily if they believe they're safely anonymous.
- Arnt 2y agoAdding to that. Shitstorms aren't the only thing. Fake news, slander and so on also matter in Germany. There's an ongoing affair for example, someone posted a fake quote back in 2016 and eventually was sentenced to prison for it. (Basically, "x said y" except that the whole thing was a slanderous invention.) People still keep reposting the shit even now, and the Germans don't like that kind of thing. I think that anyone who wants to defend pseudoanonymity needs to look closely at how to dininish the number and magnitude of shitstorms, prosecute swatters reliably and generally get a grip on the negative consequences of pseudoanonymity.
