I just finished listening to the story of how Steve Jobs persuaded the music companies to go online and digital with iPod and iTunes, committing their entire catalog. It may seem obvious today that music is digital and online but at the time it was unthinkable that the record companies would allow this. There’s a parallel here ….. people, relationships, charisma and magic can make things happen. Steve Jobs wove a spell of excitement that people couldn’t help buying into, even when sometimes it wasn’t really in their interests so much. Facebook, Meta, Zuckerberg and whoever else was involved with this thing didn’t weave any such magic.
