Australia's social media ban for children under 16 just became law
- red369 2y agoI'm doing my best to avoid writing a sarcastic comment about Australia's reputation for putting off troubling about the technical details for digital legislation. However, I can't resist posting some of the highlights that arose when the Assistance and Access Act passed a few years back: Asked whether the laws of mathematics behind encryption would trump any new legislation, Mr Turnbull said: "The laws of Australia prevail in Australia, I can assure you of that." (0) The Director General of the Australian Signals Directorate gave a myth-busting speech about that Act which was a bit awkward too: https://www.asd.gov.au/news-events-speeches/speeches/director-general-asd-statement-regarding-tola-act-2018 https://www.asd.gov.au/news-events-speeches/speeches/directo... Fingers crossed they work through this one properly. 0) http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/facebook-rebuffs-malcolm-turnbull-on-laws-to-access-encrypted-messages-for-criminal-investigations-20170714-gxb773.html http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/facebo...
