Dr Oz is an American boarded cardiovascular surgeon, who performed many complicated surgeries, including cardiac transplants. He received his undergraduate degree in biology magna cum laude at Harvard University. He obtained MD and MBA degrees from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Penn's Wharton School. He completed his residency and fellowship at Columbia University.

- wqaatwt 2y agoHim being highly qualified in a specific narrow area doesn’t mean much besides that. Ben Carson was also an extremely renowned neurosurgeon, also a complete nutjob…

They are questioning his willingness to promote remedies with no evidence base, because it may reveal a degree of venality, or at least susceptibility to influence in ways that are at odds with the standards of his profession, let alone those of public service.
- ZeroGravitas 2y agoThey didn't actually claim these people were stupid or lacked qualifications, just that they were "full of shit" and likely to give nonsensical medical advice, which they are all on record as having done. So clearly their education and experience didn't stop them before, why do you think it will stop them now, when they've been hand picked to the job because of that previous bad advice?

It is impossible for anyone, in any field, to be a domain expert, no matter what their experience or qualifications, if they spend the amount of time he does chasing fame and fortune on talk and news shows. A domain expert must be immersed in their field constantly, not shooting their own show, appearing on Oprah twice per week, going on book tours, and running for office. After throwing away all of his education and training and the lifetime of professional development needed just to stay current (nevermind get better) in order to pursue fame, a first year med student probably knows more about health than doctor fucking oz.
- IOT_Apprentice 2y agoDr Oz is a Quack outside of his domain of expertise. He is board certified and it doesn’t stop him from promoting snake oil products.
