UK arrests 3,300 for online statements

- andsoitis 2y ago> Nine people a day are being arrested for posting allegedly offensive messages online as police step up their campaign to combat social media hate speech. If this is true (don’t know publication’s agenda or researched the issue), it is really problematic that police are using force. Everyone has the right to be offensive.
- jfengel 2y agoNot in the UK, you don't: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2003/21/section/127 https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2003/21/section/127 Or at least, if you do want to be offensive, you have to be truthful about it. The UK is a lot less tolerant than the US about publishing lies.
- dragonwriter 2y agoGiven the burden of proof differences, the UK is a lot less tolerant, in practice, than the US of publishing the truth, too.
