I own a car which sits unused for 99% of the time. Traditional taxis and unreliable/unpleasant public transport are the reason I keep it. I can imagine many people are in the same position and would gladly do without the hassle if only there was an easy and reliable alternative.

But there is a long list of social, economic and political forces determined to prevent this from ever happening in the USA.
