I think most people don’t understand that our perspective on the past 10 years has been very colored by constant availability of extremely cheap business lending. The prevailing mindset in technology has been that one is to spend basically unlimited funds to ”purchase” audience by offering products at a lower rate than the competition. Once the audience is obtained the product is basically irrelevant.
That has always seemed like a race to the bottom to me and it’s not a sustainable model for the economy.
Post-Covid, and given that the best engineers now command remote availability, and that debt is no longer approximately free, the future of the urban tech hub is in question.
