My least favorite form of Effort-Dumping is rubber duck effort dumping. Where someone pulls me into a call just to talk to me like I'm a rubber duck. Then proceeding to dump the entire problem on my shoulders and leaving.
- JohnFen 2y agoI deal with this by obliging them and being a rubber duck. That is, I just let them verbally work out what they need to work out, but I don't take on their problem. It's still theirs. I'm just willing to lend an ear.
- foxyv 2y agoI've tried that for the first 5 years. But eventually I just spend all my time as a developer/therapist and my real job never gets done. Not to mention it is utterly exhausting. It would be one thing if they vented and then got the job done, but I almost always end up having to clean up a huge mess.
