I will continue getting them until I see studies / reporting indicating that the potential effects of long-covid are close to nil. I have read a fair number of articles suggesting permanent impairment of different sorts, with mental decline being the most frightening (to me).
- Terr_ 2y agoI remember being aghast at the "just a flu" crowd, and trying to point out even some very optimistic napkin-math was enough to show it was a multi-billion-dollar issue, even if we only looked at outright deaths. Throw in medical care, lost work, and now long-term disabilities... and it's even worse.
- toomuchtodo 2y ago~17M people in the US alone suffer from long covid. https://www.kff.org/coronavirus-covid-19/issue-brief/as-recommendations-for-isolation-end-how-common-is-long-covid/ https://www.kff.org/coronavirus-covid-19/issue-brief/as-reco...
- NobleLie 2y agoHow many from long flu to fairly compare?
- aeonik 2y agoFlu and Covid are pretty similar fyi, people just underestimate the flu.
- Rendello 2y agoThe flu left me sick for three years as a young teenager. At a certain point I just assumed I wouldn't get better, luckily I did though.
- Krssst 2y agoBut most people don't catch the flu once a year, while catching covid once a year isn't unexpected.
- giraffe_lady 2y agoHow many times have you had the flu?
- aeonik 2y agoProbably 3, definitely once. I've had Covid 5 times (I'm vaccinated, though I got the alpha variant before vaccines). The first flu I got almost made me fail freshman year of high school. Fever and aches lasted for 5 days. The first Covid I had was nearly as bad, but the worst it was over in 2-3 days compared to that flu strain that I got. Covid leftover symptoms dragged on for a few weeks. I also got the fatigue people were talking about, but I can't decouple those symptoms from the isolation, then I had a kid right after too.

- hindsightbias 2y agoIt’s easier for those of us vaxxed and got mildly sick to blame old age instead of covid complications. That said, the number of delta people I know with tinnitus is crazy. I go crazy just thinking about it.

- tim333 2y agoThe effects of long-covid are definitely not nil. However having now had the jab 4 times and covid 3 times I'm kind of thinking my immune system must be pretty prepared by now. I'm not sure if there's been much research on the benefits of the much vaxxed/exposed getting yet more vax?
