I get the clickbait title, but “useless” doesn’t meaningfully describe a function that gets used a lot. I think you want to say “I don’t like printf.” Of course in your own code you can write whatever output formatting functions you like — those you find useful. Given the widespread usage of printf and siblings, complaining and hoping it will go away or change to something more lisp-y seems like a waste of effort.
