Governments won’t act. The best you can do to help with the climate crisis is to have one less kid than what you wanted to have.
- shdh 2y agoThat's likely not a real solution either. Encouraging a small minority of HN users to not have an additional child won't move the needle. It'll likely just remove a person capable of some level of critical thinking from the population pool.
- hollerith 2y agoI agree, but at least we can discourage people from saying things like, "Russia is doomed because of demographic collapse," when we are just guessing about the effects of a slow down of the birth rate on the economy of a country long term.
- shdh 2y agoKorean and Japanese birth rates are very low. The West is following suit. We'll likely see a global population decline.
- henry2023 2y agoCritical thinking capable people are more likely to work for an ad-corporation whose only side effect is to increase consumption and therefore increase emissions.
- moffkalast 2y agoOkay, but having 255 kids sounds like a problem?
