On HN, if a post is paywalled, and someone posts a link in the comments that is similar to the post, or to archive, then in my experience 100% of the time it's been an unpaywalled version. Doesn't need any explanation on HN
- gruez 2y agoNot everyone is a HN veteran that knows this, and adding "paywall bypass: " goes a long way to ease comprehension.
- bookofjoe 2y agoIsn't it enough already that the poster has taken the time and trouble to post a bypass without having to additionally specify that that is what it is? Sheesh!
- gruez 2y agoI'm not sure how you (and many others, judging by the downvotes) got the impression that OP should be shamed for not specifying what the list is for. I only said that "you should mention [...]". If you agree that adding an explainer is a net benefit (ie. help people understand what it's for), then I don't see why it's not something you "should" do.
