Show HN: Pull metrics for your favorite stocks
Hey HN! I've built a simple application that let's you pull data like price, moving averages, stop-losses etc. for your favorite stocks. I always found myself looking up the same things (on yahoo finance, trading platforms etc.), so I wanted an easy way to fetch the data.
It's still baby steps - right now you cannot specify the data you want, and it only supports US stocks, but it's a start!
I'd love to hear from you what data and functionalities could be useful for you to have access to, so I can continue improving on this :)
If you input your own stock tickers, it generates a new url that you can share with others. Like here's my current portfolio: https://numeric-replica-441407-p8.ew.r.appspot.com/portfolio/13c1f1e8-84a9-4fd5-9b72-c04c0fd290b8 https://numeric-replica-441407-p8.ew.r.appspot.com/portfolio...
Best,
- haebom 2y agoGood idea. However, the usability will depend on which API you use. At the end of the day, it seems like stocks should give users something they can use to make a value judgement about whether to hold, buy, sell, or just curious about the news. For example, a golden cross is a familiar phrase to those who trade stocks, but it may be unfamiliar to the average investor who doesn't trade stocks or has no knowledge of stock trading.
- Aceborn 2y agoYour absolutely right! Right now, I'm using the yfinance package which give me access to a wide range of data from yahoo finance. This app definitely requires users to have some prior knowledge and interest in stocks, although I've tried to make the explanations helpful. I'm thinking of building an application using chatgpt which will be more conversational, so that you can get advice and have it help you select stocks. Hopefully this will give users what they feel they need to make a value judgements around the stocks they select :) s
