Increasingly you can avoid JavaScript altogether with WebAssembly if you're making an application more than a set of hyperlinked documents.
Here's a demo of Dart and Flutter in WebAssembly: https://flutterweb-wasm.web.app/ https://flutterweb-wasm.web.app/
- WA 2y agoIt shows clearly that Flutter for web is hot garbage. It is flaky (Safari on iOS 18, iPhone 15 Pro Max), it doesn’t let me select text or copy-paste anything. Rendering the UI in a Canvas works only for niche apps.
- peutetre 2y agoMore precisely Safari is quite behind on its WebAssembly implementation. This implementation of Visual Basic 6 written in C# compiled to WebAssembly also works better in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox than it does in Safari: https://bandysc.github.io/AvaloniaVisualBasic6/ https://bandysc.github.io/AvaloniaVisualBasic6/ Safari must catch up.
- robin_reala 2y agoHow accessible is it? Does the performance remain if you enable Flutter’s “accessibility mode”? (Hint: it doesn’t, and isn’t fit for purpose for applications with users)
- peutetre 2y ago> isn’t fit for purpose for applications with users Of course it is. It's being used for real world applications right now. You shouldn't worry that WebAssembly will displace JavaScript for application development on the web. That's coming. WebAssembly brings all languages to the web. Don't fear it, embrace it.
