Ask HN: What are your favorite YouTube channels to watch passively?
One big reason I watch the news is it’s good background noise to watch passively while doing other things. For a few years now I’ve been kind of done with it, between the ratings-driven sensationalism and decreased focus on local stories.
What kind of YouTube channels People here like to have on in the background. Where it’s interesting, but doesn’t require deep focus.
- eimrine 2y agoIf it doesn't require a deep focus it can not be considered interesting. I love this russian-speaking channel on math education https://www.youtube.com/@micarest https://www.youtube.com/@micarest
- duringmath 2y agoOld timey living or machine repair: https://www.youtube.com/live/33E_-Dfn4Io https://www.youtube.com/live/33E_-Dfn4Io
- gregjor 2y agoFunny reaction videos to old episodes of To Catch A Predator and Hoarders.
- sfmz 2y agoBankless analyzes the crypto-space which has social, legal, psychological and cultural dimensions. https://www.youtube.com/@Bankless/videos https://www.youtube.com/@Bankless/videos
- solardev 2y agoFor passive watching, I like watching factory line processes... it feels like a IRL version of Factorio, lol: https://www.youtube.com/@processx https://www.youtube.com/@processx https://www.youtube.com/@Process-X https://www.youtube.com/@Process-X (actually a different one... rip-off name, maybe, but they have different content) For semi-involved watching (like I usually pay attention, but sometimes multitask and still really enjoy it) are the civil engineering channels. As software guy, especially, I love learning about how the built world is engineered: https://www.youtube.com/c/AwesomeEngineering https://www.youtube.com/c/AwesomeEngineering https://www.youtube.com/realengineering https://www.youtube.com/realengineering And of course there's https://www.youtube.com/@veritasium https://www.youtube.com/@veritasium and https://www.youtube.com/@kurzgesagt https://www.youtube.com/@kurzgesagt, informative and fun videos on a variety of topics (most of which I don't care that much about, so it's fine to just have on in the background)
