In the US at least, the top killer of drivers are trees on the side of the road.
This is false. Your cited link (https://highways.dot.gov/safety/RwD https://highways.dot.gov/safety/RwD) clearly demonstrates that head-on collisions cause more fatalities than tree+utility pole collisions combined.
