Outside the USA, yes. Sadly, a majority of Americans thinks that being gay is a choice while being obese is genetic.
- smsm42 14y agoBeing obese is partly genetic - or, more precisely, inclination to being obese is. However, choice has a lot to do with the result. As for being gay and American opinion, I'm not sure what this is based on. Polls seem to differ wildly, e.g. compare: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/06/27/poll.gay/ http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/06/27/poll.gay/ and http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2009/12/18/poll-suggests-almost-half-of-americans-believe-being-gay-is-a-choice/ http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2009/12/18/poll-suggests-almost-ha.... I suspect the results of these polls have a lot to do with current politics and how questions are formulated.
- einhverfr 14y agoThe more we learn, it looks more and more like obesity may be a general indicator of poor health. While there are genetic contributing factors, there are lots of other factors such as when you eat (do you eat breakfast), nutrition, and even quantity/quality of sleep can have an impact. Obesity may be the product actually of a large number of choices, not a single lack of self control or anything.
