Sometimes I wonder if the Bigfoot myth had its origins in ancient paleoindian accounts of the giant sloths they encountered when humans first set foot in Americas, transmitted with a lot of noise through word of mouth for about ~400-500 generations. Their large size and claws surely helped leaving large footprints.
