I really don’t get the argument that we shouldn’t be kind because some people ‘don’t really mean it.’ Like - the whole point is fostering a comfortable work environment, where drama like this doesn’t happen, because people are careful of how they interact with others. A ‘supposedly’ supportive environment filled with backstabbing and gossip is in fact not a supportive environment, so why bring it up as if it’s somehow a ‘gotcha’ or even related? Do people really not understand what a comfortable, supportive environment populated by kind caring coworkers looks like?
