Ask HN: Who do I contract to write a EULA?
I have tried googling this to no avail.

- brudgers 2y agoYour lawyer is the best place to start. If you don’t have a lawyer, there’s not much you can do to enforce a EULA and therefore not much point in making one. Good luck.
- wsh 2y agoI agree with the advice to ask a lawyer, but it’s sensible to be concerned with license agreements even in early-stage ventures that couldn’t enforce them. By establishing the company as licensor, an agreement might help the founders avoid personal liability if a customer sues. Later on, it may be desirable to show potential acquirers that, from the company’s inception, its customer contracts included terms to confirm ownership of intellectual property, limit liability, satisfy privacy laws, and so on.
- brudgers 2y agoIf someone sues, you’ll need a lawyer. A fictitious person (e.g. an LLC or corporation) is how founders avoid personal liability. Your lawyer can explain this. They will also explain that anyone can sue anyone (at least in the US). If you can’t afford a lawyer, don’t do business that requires one.

- mchannon 2y agoI tried "write me a 5-page EULA for a [$YOURKINDOFBUSINESS] website" on ChatGPT and it looked great. Do you want this EULA to do anything in particular for you? You could hire an attorney to write one, where they'll use a similar (or in any likelihood inferior) tool, and bill you $5k, and be just as happy to charge you $300/hr. to back it up, as they would to charge you $300/hr. to back up someone else's EULA. There are some really smart lawyers out there. But most of the ones you'll find aren't adding any value over ChatGPT, they're just really good at sounding like they're one of the few smart lawyers out there.
