The US and EU moderates in charge for the last 4 years definitely want Ukraine to have a decisive victory in reclaiming their invaded territory. The right-wing (conveniently supported by the Russian state) hinder that to an almost impossible degree.
I think this will continue with Taiwan too. Pompeo was the staunch Taiwanese supporter in the last Trump admin and Trump has specifically said he isn't welcome back. These peoples' WW2 ancestors are rolling in their grave.
