Are there mitochondria in neurons?
- JumpCrisscross 2y ago> Are there mitochondria in neurons? Yes [1]. [1] https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7373250/ https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7373250/
- outworlder 2y agoYes. Neurons are very energy hungry.
- piombisallow 2y agoEvery cell in the body (except blood cells) has mithocondria.
- devilbunny 2y agoNitpick: except red blood cells. White cells very much do have mitochondria. RBC's don't need them because they are incredibly low-metabolism. It's energetically cheaper for the organism just to make them, let them go for a few months, and then recycle the components.
