That's really interesting. I don't remember it being particularly difficult to read compared to other "literary" novels. Have you tried any other Rushdie works? I have found though that often it takes me much longer to read the first few pages of a book, often the first few chapters, as if my brain needs time to internalize the author's style in order to read the rest more efficiently.
