States voted on minimum wage and paid leave
- JumpCrisscross 2y agoIt looks like the lowest living wage, according to MIT, is 14 to 15 an hour in Texas [1]. That seems to support a $15/hour national minimum wage. - toomuchtodo 2y ago$19/hr would be inflation adjusted federal minimum. Some more structural demographic compression and immigration restriction, we’ll get there. Supply and demand.
- JumpCrisscross 2y ago> $19/hr would be inflation adjusted federal minimum Sure, but there is no reason to treat the 2009 number as a ground truth. The best solution would be a variable federal minimum wage, but I don’t have a great idea on how to do that sustainably.
- toomuchtodo 2y agoWhen you say variable, do you mean it would float and could go down based on some metric(s)? Or inflation adjusted where it could only go up, like social security cost of living increases?
- JumpCrisscross 2y ago> do you mean it would float and could go down based on some metric(s) Up only. Variable across geography. Setting New York’s livable wage for Alabama is a recipe for depopulating the latter. Best federal government can probably do is state by state; so pick the Nth cheapest COl and set that as the minimum across the board in that state.
