The Dems failed with this kind of thinking: It's a prescriptivist ideology that thinks it knows better and that doesn't need to actually listen to the concerns of who they're diagnosing. How to start off on a better footing? Start with: "They're right about their feelings, but try to find the genuine sources for them and *don't* snark back." The last 3 words are important to the point that it needs to be drilled in: *DON'T SNARK BACK.* Engage in their language and point to alternate sources of their frustrations. Bernie was great at this, and knew to engage with them in a supportive manner, whilst still pointing out new sources for their frustrations.
