I didn't understand the focus on abortion as an issue for people. It's a legislative problem after Roe was overturned and it's not clear to me what the presidency would do to change that other than asking the other branches to take a federal action.
- hibikir 2y agoIt's really all about control of the courts. They can, for all intents and purposes, throw laws away, inclusive sections of the constitution with little to no recourse without a level of control of the legislative branch that is extremely rare. Given that congress is so naturally weak, the most important part of it is the senate's role in federal judicial appointments.
- camdenreslink 2y agoIt was a winning ballot measure, and protection for it was passed in most states it ran (even states where Trump won). Didn’t translate to enough enthusiasm for voters though.
- lokar 2y agoIt’s currently unclear, but it’s likely congress could enact a nationwide ban.
