Before I was a software engineer I worked, full time, as a financial counselor helping people do pretty much the same thing. I used to do other things as well like housing and bankruptcy counseling which I don't do anymore. You could get certified as a financial advisor if you want to give investment advice or look for some financial coaching training programs.
