Why GM is ditching Apple CarPlay, with software boss Baris Cetinok

- Daedren 2y agoI'm not sure how much the average person cares about Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, but to me the experience is like night and day. Car companies don't have great rep for doing good software. This is either going to be crazy good or a complete disaster, the business risk involved is so high.
- xenospn 2y agoI think most people definitely care, specifically now with wireless CarPlay and navigation. It’s a no brainer.

- beardyw 2y agoWhich will be supported longest: CarPlay, Android Auto, Ultifi?
- jacobjjacob 2y agoThe only reason that matters is “$20 billion to $25 billion in subscription revenue by 2030”. How they plan to accomplish this after laying off 1000 SWEs last year is questionable, but I worry that there isn’t enough competition and GM buyers will just be stuck with whatever garbage gets put in. Maybe we’ll be back to the days of people ripping out their car stereos for aftermarket ones?
