A big deal-breaker for Postgres pub/sub is the messages have a maximum size of 8000 bytes. The recommended work around is to put data in a table and send IDs, but then you have to deal with garbage collecting that if you don't want it to live forever, and you are adding operations to each message. Obviously this can be fine, but for plenty of Redis use cases it really isn't equivalent with that limit.
