The problem is that most of the time what software engineers say is "better" just isn't. Suddenly instead of being comfortable using the tool themselves, they have to request engineer time to update the UI. Instead of being able to write whatever weird excel formulas they have they maybe now need to learn SQL. Maybe they "should" but that is kind of besides the point
