Making Pop Rocks from scratch (is complicated) [video]
- 14 2y agoI watched this earlier it was a fun watch as is most of Nile’s videos. I hope he does the follow up video and uses the oxygen reactive gas and makes the most dangerous pop rocks like he mentioned.
- ethbr1 2y agoOf course it's NileRed. (fixed!) Does he ever talk about where he gets his gear? I know some of it is secondhand salvage... but I feel like there's some "family" component, or at least was at the beginning.
- oneplane 2y agoUsually Alibaba or Aliexpress (he does state that, sometimes with a screenshot as well). For the not-so-special stuff he usually doesn't hide the labels or where the stuff (like chemicals) comes from.
- JoshTriplett 2y agoEarly on there was a lot more salvaging and makeshift components, and "I know someone who knows someone". Nowadays, though, I think the channel gets more than enough support that the answer is "I spent $12k and bought it".
- ornateelephant 2y agoIt's nilered so it would be more like "I spent 12k....and bought it".
- jcims 2y agoHahaha I heard his voice when I read that a second time.
- adastra22 2y agoThis video says Alibaba.
- monkpit 2y agoNileRed - NileBlue is his second channel.
- ethbr1 2y agoPoint! Fixed. You can tell how often I'm on YT, chemistry and forging videos aside.
- fragmede 2y agoThey have different taglines, and this video was posted to the NileBlue channel. NileRed: Capturing the natural beauty of chemistry NileBlue: Exploring science through sheer incompetence...
- samlinnfer 2y agoIt's the reactor from htlab but it might be a re-brand [0][1] Alibaba.com seems the place to be, although I keep seeing the same product (literally same picture) but under different brands so who know who actually makes this [2] [0] https://htlab.cn https://htlab.cn [1] https://i.imgur.com/sY4hanN.png https://i.imgur.com/sY4hanN.png [2] https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Easy-Disassembly-Continuous-Pyrolysis-Reactor-Kettle_1601255193775.html https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Easy-Disassembly-Cont...
- go_prodev 2y agoHe addressed the "dad paid for everything" rumors in a recent video. From memory he just worked for it, bought secondhand and then made a lot of money through YouTube.
- mproud 2y agoClaire Saffitz made some gourmet ones a while back: https://youtu.be/lkOzch781t8 https://youtu.be/lkOzch781t8

- jbaiter 2y agoClaire Saffitz's is probably my favorite channel for all things baking, such high quality productions with a care for detail, thanks for sharing that!
- mmmrtl 2y agosee also: Applied Science's attempt 12 years ago (no fancy pressurized mixing machine so the result is weaker than the real thing). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsSwvmNEr0Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsSwvmNEr0Q IMO his is the best random project channel on youtube
