Monkeys will never type Shakespeare, study finds

- ksaj 2y agoBack in the 90's, (pseudo)science was trying to calculate the odds that a computer virus would self-assemble in memory. That's all fine and dandy, but the reality is that even if it could happen, it still would not be executed. So the whole exercise was moot, and a huge waste of funding. It didn't even manage to sell product. This Monkey/Shakespeare study is similar, in that the entire premise is nonsensical and its conclusion overtly obvious. They could just as well spend millions to study the sound of one hand clapping.
- pestatije 2y agothat is actually a take on the infinite monkey theorem[3], maths at its best, pseudoscience only if you entirely miss the point [3] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinite_monkey_theorem https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinite_monkey_theorem

- az09mugen 2y agoIMHO, against of this is really a problem of "monkeys will never type Shqakespeare", but more a problem of "can LLMs create a human-like-inspired-artwork"
