Show HN: Create Your Own TV Channel
Hey HackerNews'ers,
I've built FreeTVz.com - a platform that transforms YouTube into a traditional TV experience. Here's what you can do:
◉ Create your own TV channels based on any topic or interest.
◉ Browse and watch over 100+ free curated channels across categories like History, Science, Tech, and more.
◉ Enjoy an ad-free experience, making your viewing uninterrupted and seamless.
◉ Rediscover the nostalgia of channel surfing, without endless scrolling or algorithmic feeds.
I'd love for you to check it out and share your thoughts.

- throwaway888abc 2y agoThis is cool
- 01jonny01 2y agoThanks, glad you like it :)
- 0x3331 2y agoThat's wild! Thank you
- 01jonny01 2y agoCheers, glad you like it!
- gigatree 2y agoThis is incredible! There’s just something so different about “live” TV compared to a bunch of videos you scroll through. Everything has been about control and overabundance, but there’s so much value in not having to always decide, of just sitting back and watching what comes to you. Probably the best way to discover new things too. How do you get around ads? Any possibility of an Apple TV app? Would be worth $10 easily, if not a monthly subscription.
- 01jonny01 2y agoHi thanks for the feedback. I agree, one of the unintended consequences of having so much choice is that it's difficult to focus on 1 thing. I will develop Android and iOS soon once I gauge demand - neither platforms make casting from app to TV straightforward :S
- 01jonny01 2y agowooohooo - just hit 10 points, beat my PB :D
- 01gracey01 2y agocongrats, well deserved.
- yungtriggz 2y agoBuilt something like this a little while ago while iterating on the concept of AI finding relevant video content more generally. I loved it but wasn't maintaining it. Glad to have something I can just use now! Congrats on the launch
- 01jonny01 2y agoThanks for feedback. Was you using openai api to curate a schedule of videos? Would be interested to know.
- yungtriggz 2y agoyea basically
- 01jonny01 2y agoI've experimented with that aswell, check out moodplaylist.com. At the time the model (3.5) never really had a comprehensive list of video ids. Maybe this has changed with 4o.
- chocoboaus2 2y agoThis is truly fascinating. Taking a modern platform and overlaying archaic style appointment tv watching really transforms how it feels, which is kind of strange. Good job :)
- 01jonny01 2y agoThanks, even I was shocked when using it how much easier it is to watch a video without getting distracted. It blows my mind that old tech is still superior in many ways.
