Space Transportation Mach 4 plane 2x speed of Concorde completes test flight
- blackeyeblitzar 2y agoHard to take this article seriously. First off, it is SCMP, which is owned by the AliBaba group. AliBaba is of course informally controlled by the CCP (see how they disappeared Jack Ma for a while and then took his company away from him). This newspaper may have an interest in playing up Chinese technology. To me it seems unlikely that a random Chinese company made a commercially competitive jet engine of this caliber, when China is having problems making basic commercial airline jet engines. The COMAC C919 for example, uses CFM Leap engines purchased from the west (similar to the 737). Additionally, their video that shows a rendered version of their plane has many oddities. The plane looks like the SR71 Blackbird, rather than something with room for passengers and cargo. It lands vertically on its tail using what looks like a tail-based rocket engine. All of this looks like a highly theoretical product.
- wkat4242 2y agoThat's not a passenger plane. It's a SR71 knock-off. The plane that was famous for leaking fuel before flight and had pilots needing pressure suits. Also, it's tiny. Needless to say we're not going to fly in this any time soon.
