Run a Wireshark capture while opening slack, those ~30ms round trips add up
- mrguyorama 2y agoI'm so tired of every single app requiring a hundred minuscule file system ops and another hundred full round trip web requests to do anything. How do you even write code that badly? Meanwhile I'm over here trying to make sure we won't get screwed when my linear loop has to iterate over 100 million items somehow. Oh, that only takes 50ms? How do you write code this badly.
- kjellsbells 2y agoHypothesis: imagine a situation where an app development task is split across multiple teams. Each teams' code could be excellent, but collectively it could suck, because each module calling another team's module incurs an i/o operation or a network round trip. I assert that low performing apps are disproportionately created by orgs with a diffuse structure or codebase. I don't think the impact of org and dev team structure on code performance and quality has really been studied.
