Essentially giving up on artificial light has been life changing for me and my family… all of us used to take melatonin and have an awful time falling and staying asleep. Now we let the house go dark at sunset, and we all just fall asleep easily.
I think individuals sensitivity to artificial light varies a lot, but for many people - including me- it can basically destroy your ability to sleep, and as a result your overall health and quality of life.
- sriacha 2y agoHow do you do things after dark with no artificial light? Especially in winter?
- _yb2s 2y agoFor the most part we don’t- we typically just go to bed at dusk. The earliest it gets totally dark in the winter is about 6pm. We do sometimes read for a while after dusk but usually with an incandescent bulb dimmed to the brightness and color of a candle. Mostly it works great, but can be awkward spending time with friends and family whose schedules may be as much as 6 hours later than ours.
