> Per the reporting party, on 10/17/2024 at approximately 1700 in the afternoon, a mixture of dye and an unidentified water treatment chemical used for the chiller system to cool the Tesla Artificial Intelligence Supercomputer was released into a storm drain at the listed location. The Palo Alto Fire Department recovered approximately 550 gallons of the mixture from the storm drain.
The reporting party is the Palo Alto Fire Department.
This was accurately presented in the article.
Yet you believe it's over 500 gallons of cleaning detergent. (According to the article, 12 gallons of those chemicals and the rest water.)
- perihelions 2y agoI'm not convinced about the article's elision from "water treatment chemical used for the chiller system" into "coolant".
- eesmith 2y agoSo your issue is they should have said "coolant additive" rather than "coolant"?
- EnTerr 2y agoPretty much. For you see, when one hears "coolant", they think of car coolant which is 50% ethylene glycol, which when spilled can poison dogs due to sweet taste. Where Meras 1020 additive is 1-2% borate and <1% lye, it really sounds closest to laundry detergent. See https://www.cityofpaloalto.org/News-Articles/City-Manager/1501-Page-Mill-Road-Incident-Update https://www.cityofpaloalto.org/News-Articles/City-Manager/15... So in total they pumped 900+ gallons of water from the drain, in which there were 6 gallons of Meras 1020 additive, which is ~12oz borax and 3oz lye crystals. So like 2 cups of this white powder https://www.20muleteamlaundry.com/ https://www.20muleteamlaundry.com/ Where Tesla did wrong was dumping the cooling water to the street (storm drain), same thing going to the sewer would been fine. Note the fluorescent green dye did its job of highlighting the mishap
