Redact-a-Chat
- subarctic 2y agoPretty cool how this is surviving the HN hug of death right now. What's it built on?
- lukaslukas 2y ago5$ vps probably not
- Kiro 2y agoWhat do you mean "probably not"? A $5 VPS should be able to handle this with ease.
- tyleo 2y agoHad the same thought. About 2k users connected when I opened it. Impressive if the numbers are believed.

- krunck 2y agoInfested with imbeciles.
- crtasm 2y ago>Redact-A-Chat is an online chat platform where every word can only be used once a day.
- chrisallick 2y agomeh... i guess it proves if you take words away people cant chat?
- mrinfinitiesx 2y agon07 5u23 wh47 y0u m34n?
- chrisallick 2y agohaha wow i remember making a l337 speak room idle bot in VB6 for AOL for my warez group. Better times :)
- wholinator2 2y agoInteresting concept. I open it and the very first chat i see is a slightly obfuscated n-word. Seems like most activity is just seeing if people have already said curse words, and apprending words with some character to make a single-word sentence. If you just put an underscore between each word then the redaction moves to units of sentences instead of words. If you permute the underscores with hyphens then each sentence is easily accomplished near factorially with sentence length.
- j16sdiz 2y agoDidn't #xkcd irc had a similar channel?
- codetrotter 2y agoYes. https://blog.xkcd.com/2008/01/14/robot9000-and-xkcd-signal-attacking-noise-in-chat/ https://blog.xkcd.com/2008/01/14/robot9000-and-xkcd-signal-a... And they made the code for their IRC bot open source, linked to at the bottom of that blog post. The link is now dead, but an archived copy of it can be found at https://archive.ph/d9KMK https://archive.ph/d9KMK
- preciousoo 2y ago3 slurs upon entry. "lol"
- IncreasePosts 2y agoThis should also redact any non-dictionary words. Just_typing_like_this_to_make_a_really_long_unique_"word"_is_silly.
- throwup238 2y agoEven better allow a set Levenshtein distance from the dictionary list of up to half the word length or something. Normalize the unicode or at least just convert punctuation, underscores, dashes, and other symbols to spaces.
- kristopolous 2y agoEvery now and then the beauty of 90s Internet anarchy comes back in brief flashes
- therein 2y agoEnjoy. But also sorry to ruin it a bit. This will also work for many word filters online. I kinda feel bad bringing this up. https://unicode-explorer.com/c/200B https://unicode-explorer.com/c/200B
- pimeys 2y agoI just opened the site, got the text where anybody can enter the same word only once per day, background blurred. From the background I could see the N word in different versions, so just closed the tab.
- thrance 2y agoJust got in and all I see is variations on the N-words and hate speech against jews. Maybe consider constraining users to real words (like those of the scrabble dictionary) and filter out bad words?
- kurayashi 2y agoIn case people aren’t aware: This is from mschf. A modern (edgy) design brand who are known for things like the flip-flop high heels, a reverse sneaker, out of focus money stack and probably most famous the big red boot.
