I thought the answer has been found in 2009 [0].
In my opinion, self-replication and observed evolution of the relative short RNA molecules qualifies to be called "life".

- gus_massa 2y agoI really like the RNA world hypothesis, but this article is about a much later step. Once you have DNA and proteins, how to use them to "burn" stuff to get energy.
