When does generative AI qualify for fair use?
- Terretta 2y agoThey're using SO graphs to make a point, but I'm not sure they mean what article says they mean. > For example, “The consequences of generative AI for online knowledge communities” found that traffic to Stack Overflow declined by about 12% after the release of ChatGPT... Because ChatGPT read everything, not just StackOverflow, and synthesizes answers to your own question faster than wading through endless questions on StackOverflow reading answers and trying to guess which apply. Roughly, usability + responsiveness, both with a big dose of "don't make me think". ChatGPT is winning QA use from those who aren't habituated to StackOverflow already precisely because its answers are not derivative of (just/only) StackoverFlow.
